PCI to Provide Funding for New Homeless Housing in Brockton
PCI recently committed $1.7 million as part of the construction financing package for 32 new units of housing for the homeless. Father Bill’s & Mainspring, Inc., the borrower, currently has more than 200 units of supportive housing, owns the only emergency shelter for teens in Southeastern Massachusetts, and provides housing for victims of domestic violence. Available services for the organization’s clients include advocacy, homelessness prevention, adult education, employment training, and health care. In 2007, the agency assisted 2,250 people in their prevention, shelter, and housing programs.
The proposed 32 unit project, “Work Express Housing,” will be developed on a vacant parcel adjacent to Mainspring House, which houses the Brockton shelter and administrative offices. The site is conveniently located within walking distance to the downtown train station and bus service. The three story building will have 15 transitional units for homeless veterans, 16 permanent supportive housing units for chronically homeless individuals, and 1 unit for a resident manager.
Tenants will have access to a full array of health, mental health, substance abuse, case management, life skills and vocational services. Many of these services are already available within Mainspring House programs as well as a local network of community based service providers.
